“Following the Polish Footprints of Odesa” (Odesa’s Polish Heritage)

Odesa has a talent for mixing everything: languages, destinies, architecture and personalities. In this cocktail, the Polish presence is not an “optional extra”, but one of the flavours without which the city would not sound quite so vibrant.
The first Polish noble families moved to Odesa as early as the late 18th century, and by the end of the 19th century a significant Polish community had already taken shape here — with its own names, achievements, habits and, naturally, ambitions.
On this walk, Polish Odesa comes together piece by piece: traces of the people who built, taught, healed, traded, argued, fell in love and left the city with a beautiful habit of being European — effortlessly and with a smile.
This is not a tour about “dry history”, but about a living legacy: where Polish heritage can still be read in façades, details and city stories. And yes — afterwards, the word “Polska” in Odesa stops being just a name and becomes a clue you finally understand.

What you’ll hear and learn

Polska Street and the “Polish layer” of the city centre: how a street name becomes a piece of history.
Architectural details and urban “clues” that reveal the European origins of local taste and architectural tradition.
Places connected with Odesa’s Polish community: where people lived, studied, worked, created projects and helped shape the city.
Places where Odesa feels especially European: neighbourhoods, façades, courtyards and grand entrances (depending on route access).
City stories and real characters of Polish Odesa: told through biographies, professions and the traces they left in the urban landscape.
Unexpected “micro-discoveries”: plaques, surnames and decorative details — the things most people usually walk straight past.

We recommend bringing

Odesa likes its guests to travel light, but smart: comfortable shoes, water, clothes suitable for the weather (in summer — a hat/sun protection, in cooler seasons — a windproof jacket), a charged phone or power bank for photos, and a little cash for a spontaneous coffee or souvenir. The city will provide the rest — just don’t bring a sense of hurry: that’s the first thing you’ll lose here, and honestly, that’s for the best.

Пройдём по знаковым зданиям (Пассаж, Дом Руссова, дворец Потоцких и др.), поговорим о людях-основателях города и о том, как идеи тайных обществ могли влиять на архитектуру и даже логику городской планировки.
