In a legendary Odesa courtyard, you’re invited to a feast in the finest local traditions — where food is merely the excuse and good company is the main attraction.
Long tables (as long as a typical Odesa conversation), generous portions, and a mouthwatering spread of local specialties. The kind of feast where guests say, “I’ll just have a little taste,” and promptly lose track of the next two hours. Think forshmak (traditional herring pâté), crispy little Black Sea fish, gefilte fish, smoky eggplant caviar, fried gobies, and freshly prepared Black Sea flounder… And if the occasion calls for it, our colorful Odesa dockworkers, the legendary bindyuzhniks, will bring you some water. Or something a little stronger — depending on just how seriously you take your cultural education.
A live musical ensemble will teach you some of the best-loved songs of Leonid Utyosov and invite you to sing along, while the courtyard’s “residents” keep the feast lively in a way only Odesa locals can — with quick wit, outrageous humor, and absolutely no unnecessary modesty.
We invite you to enjoy this unforgettable lunch in the company of Roza, Izya, and Borya — professional entertainers, born-and-raised Odesa locals, blessed with razor-sharp tongues and a wonderfully wicked sense of humor.
“Good evening, dear Odesa locals and distinguished visitors! May you live long and prosper — and may your doctors never have to work too hard!
Our courtyard has always been a peaceful, quiet, respectable place… until you showed up.
And as Izya from the third floor used to say (his apartment is just a little to the left, two steps right, three left, and around the corner):
‘Whatever you do, don’t be shy about eating. Save your embarrassment for when they bring out the second helping!’”
And from there, the afternoon unfolds into a wonderful celebration of food, laughter, music, and lively conversation — that unmistakable feeling of experiencing the real, living Odesa rather than the picture-postcard version.
The History Hidden Inside the Courtyard
In Odesa’s early days, traditional building materials such as timber and hard stone were scarce. But there was one thing in abundance: limestone, right beneath everyone’s feet.
Builders excavated underground galleries in the middle of their plots, quarried the limestone, and used the very same stone to construct houses around the perimeter.
And so, wall by wall, Odesa’s famous courtyards came into being — the beating heart of the city, where neighbors knew everything about everyone, news traveled faster than the wind, and everyday life unfolded just a little closer, louder, and warmer than anywhere else.

Frequently asked questions
What Exactly Is “Food for Thought” — a Culinary Experience, a Theatrical Performance, or a Guided Tour?
“Food for Thought” is a one-of-a-kind culinary theatre experience that transforms a traditional Odesa feast into a lively, interactive performance. Set in the charming atmosphere of an authentic Odesa courtyard, it brings together legendary local dishes, colorful characters, sparkling humor, live music, and the beloved songs of old Odesa. There’s no conventional stage or audience here — guests become part of the show, sharing in the laughter, conversations, and unforgettable moments. And for an extra special touch, this theatrical dining experience can also serve as the grand finale to a guided city tour or an interactive Odesa quest.
Is It More About the Food or the Experience?
It’s about the art of enjoying life, beautifully brought together. The food isn’t just a backdrop, and the entertainment isn’t something separate from the dining experience. Everything comes together the way Odesa loves it best: with wonderful flavors, genuine character, and just the right touch of wit and charm.
Is It a Lively, Interactive Experience, or a More Relaxed and Laid-Back Affair?
It’s lively rather than loud, entertaining without being overwhelming. We know how to make people laugh without wearing them out, and how to invite guests to join in without ever putting anyone on the spot. Nobody will drag you into the spotlight if you’d rather sit back, enjoy the show, and give the delicious food the attention it deserves.
What Are the Cancellation and Refund Policies If Your Plans Suddenly Take an Unexpected Turn?
We understand — life can be a bit like an Odesa tram: sometimes it unexpectedly changes direction! If you need to cancel your booking and let us know in advance, the following refund policy applies:
- At least 7 calendar days before the event — 100% of the total cost will be refunded
- At least 72 hours before the event — 50% refund

What’s the Real Odesa Secret Behind This Dining Experience?
The secret is that nobody here tries too hard to impress you. Everything unfolds with warmth, good taste, and effortless charm — just like a wonderful Odesa conversation. We don’t go out of our way to amaze you. We simply make you feel so genuinely welcome that the hospitality itself becomes the most unforgettable part of the experience.
